heard a lot over the years about the caesar wrap from jacob’s pickles. finally decided to grab one while waiting for an amtrak a few weeks ago. the hype is real: this thing is huge, well dressed, & doesn’t skimp on the meat at all. my only complaint has to do with the croutons, which are huge and way too crunchy. felt like i was hurting my teeth every time i got a bite of one

perfectly mediocre mexican spot, mainly serving tortas. expected it to be better than it was but that’s okay. i don’t think they even gave me the kind of meat i ordered but the mystery meat was fine i guess

what a fantastic slice… slightly elevated in the best way. still a classic new york slice at its core—razor thin crust, slightly sweet tomato sauce, slight flop on the undercarriage—but the addition of shaved parmesan, basil, & olive oil drizzle really adds a lot. i was with ben nebita at the time and he was dumbfounded, saying he’d never had a slice of pizza that good. and i totally understand why

i had very high hopes, but this spot is overrated. very much feels as if it’s catering to a more gentrified palette & is lacking that vietnamese funk that i love in a traditional bahn mi. the bread isn’t as light as it should be, either. it tastes good and all— the bbq pork has a delicious sweet glaze & is cooked well, but it’s just not what i’m looking for out of this kind of sandwich. you can get better ones for much less if you know where to look

one of my favorite old school pizza spots in the city; a last bastion of old world italian harlem & a fantastic place for some classic slices. get the clam pie— ridiculously good, especially for a white pizza. excellent crust, perfect amount of cheese, chock full of garlic, and they don’t skimp on the seafood. everything is exactly as it should be. don’t sleep on the starters, either. & shoutout their streetside 2 dollar slices, which are an excellent on-the-go snack

abe’s pagoda is one of the loudest and most crowded bars i’ve ever been to in my entire life, and i absolutely hate going there. and yet i keep returning, again and again, because of how good their kitchen is. the fried chicken sandwich, for instance, is my favorite in the entire city. amazing crispness on the outside from the corn batter, tender meat on the interior, & a delicious chili oil aioli that adds just the right amount of szechuan kick. it’s literal perfection. one of the only things that makes a trip to bushwick worth it

one of the best halal carts in the entire city, easily. love the inclusion of eggplant— a super rare sight, but one of my favorite vegetables. adds such a great textural element & a phenomenal charred taste. the meat is seasoned perfectly and the sauces add the right amount of moisture without being too overwhelming. this is what you call “peak”

White Bear

first post on this app that hillary forced me to download. quick highlight of the best wontons in nyc (& there’s really no competition). the skin has a great bite, the chili oil & onion mixture is perfectly fragrant without being overly spicy (always ask for extra!), the filling is juicy and delightfully spiced, etc. etc. etc. only downside is the price… 10 dollars is a lot for a container of dumplings. and yet i will pay for it every single time. i love you white bear
