8/10. this place was semi viral on insta reels where i heard about it. the interior of this place is small and it was packed since i went on a weekend during lunch. bar style seating only. the udon texture is fresh, bouncy and chewy. i’ve had dishes just like this in japan. the tempera was nice and airy and not greasy. while the food is great you are paying for the experience as well.

8.5/10. this place never misses. i’ve ordered the venezuelan burger and fries 3 times and its been consistently delicious. the burger itself is massive and i think it might be one of the best i’ve ever had. also love the fact that it’s customizable so i can get it without cheese. not to mention the price; $13 for a burger of this size in nyc is great. $5 for a good size portion of fries that are super crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. (my photo only shows half of the fries that were in the bag) their sauces are amazing. i recently went back to get a chicken empanada, very different style from other south american cuisine i’ve had but still very good and filling. my bf had their impossible burger. the patty was kinda like a vegan bolognese patty, which wasn’t what we were expecting. still delicious anyway. caraotas has tons of stuff of the their menu, and i’m definitely trying their arepas and yuca fries next. they also had bowls that look much better than anything you’d get at chipotle as well as fresh smoothies and milkshakes. can’t wait to go back.

8.5/10. cute place great for a quick cheap sit down meal. i had the shrimp wonton noodle soup with egg noodle and an egg roll. really good amount of shrimp and big juicy wontons for just $9. the texture of the noodles was also perfect just like ones i would have in hong kong. the egg roll and dipping sauce was great, very tasty and paired well with my soup. i’m not in this area much but would definitely come back here for a quick bite.

9/10. went here with a close friend for brunch. very cute place and atmosphere, and staff was very nice. 100% vegan restaurant and bakery. we both had the la paysanne which had "bacon" bits, roasted tomatoes, onions, potatoes and coconut emmental cheese. very good and we both finished all of it. both of the sweet treats we had were also amazing. fraisier cake was light and fresh and the opera cake was rich and chocolatey. will be coming back here multiple times to try everything else on the menu, especially the french onion soup, all the crepes, and bakery/dessert items. price was reasonable, but not an everyday dining option. $20 will get you a good meal like most places in nyc. the dessert and pastries are a bit more pricey but the quality is great and that's to be expected.

8.5/10. went here with my bf for a date night. since i have ulcerative colitis and currently in a flare i can't have diary or many veggies, so when i saw that john's of 12th had a vegan menu, i was very excited. the best dish we had was actually an appetizer, the friend calamari. we were shocked at how big the potion was and even asked the waiter if they had given us the main course version of the calamari. we also had the vegan bruschetta which was nice a fresh paired with the calamari. for main we split a vegan alfredo. it's definitely not like the real thing and needed some salt, but if you're vegan or can't handle dairy then this will definitely give you the satisfaction of eating a creamy cheesy kinda of pasta. vegan parmigiana is brought out to all tables and we added quite a bit of that to our pasta dish as well. we were way too full for dessert, but i definitely will be coming back to have their vegan tiramisu as well as all the other desserts on the menu. they looked and sounded amazing. our waiter was very nice and attentive, and the atmosphere was beautiful. like an old school nyc italian restaurant perfect for date night or a girls night. the prices were actually reasonable for a restaurant of this caliber, especially considering the large portion sizes. we will be coming back for another date night soon.
