I went to Rails Steakhouse for the first time last night. I had high expectations as I heard good things about this restaurant—and it is a nice restaurant—but there were a few things that stood out to me in a not-so-pleasant way. First thing, the hostesses were a bit rude on the phone and weren’t as inviting when you walked in. The one that took us to our table had a better attitude. Food: We had gotten their Monday local lobster special that came with 3 courses for $39, which was a very nice special. We enjoyed it, although we did think that the lobster was a bit overcooked. Drinks: I ordered a Hugo Spritz, which came out so different than the ones I’ve had from other places. I did not like it, so I sent it back. I ordered a dirty martini which came out to be a vodka neat with olives stuffed with blue cheese (which I wish the waitress had told me that because I hate blue cheese!) no olive brine, I had to ask the waitress to bring a shot of olive brine. My friend had ordered the hazelnut espresso martini which came wrong the first time and had to be corrected. Service: once the bill came, we noticed a lot of discrepancies which needed to be corrected. The waitress came back with the “revised” bill without us bringing it up because she caught it, which we applaud her for, but the drink I sent back was still on our bill at the end, which I kindly asked if it would be voided as I did not drink it. The waitress kind of just gave me a blank stare when asked. She provided decent service; she checked on us from time to time, which we appreciated, but overall, we felt like she was giving us weird vibes towards the end. Overall, I’ll rate Rails a 7/10. I would still go back to see if they’ll do better next time but it was definitely overhyped in my opinion.
