this is one of the restaurants that is the reason why people move out of korea into ktown la. makgeolli was pretty interesting to try fresh and the huge bowl was served freezing cold. haemul pajeon (seafood pancake) was very solid despite missing a variety of seafood and a bit reliant on the sauce which was well prepared with veggies. the pancake gamja pajeon was a dark horse, great texture akin to hash brown, it’s flavor was one note but strong direction and satisfying. the bossam: Mastapiece. never had any bossam so good in my life before, cooked so clean but pliant and works on its own. but the beautiful symphony of banchan of slightly picked cabbage, pickled jalapeños, brined krill, and kimchi radish was an entire movie, beautiful from start to finish. this night was one my biggest back moments in my life and i don’t regret a single bite. highly recommend to anybody looking for a change of pace from the usual soups and stews of korean cuisine. get a couple rounds of somaek and you are good to go.
