A few years ago, a friend raved about how “the mangoes i had in Mexico City were SO SWEET, Emily you don’t understand.” Ever since then, I’ve desperately wanted to understand. I UNDERSTAND NOW.
This fruit stand didn’t have the mangoes I wanted BUT they introduced me to sapodilla (which might be my new favorite fruit?!). The texture is akin to a super ripe Bartlett pear and the FLAVOR. Think PERFECTLY caramelized sweet potato that you leave in the oven a bit longer so that it gets nice and toasty. My two fave foods combined AND to top it off, the sweet gentleman at the fruit stand went out of his way to cut up the sapodilla for me 😭 then ran to another stand to grab some spoons for me, and then when I was recording my taste review, another sweet gentleman came and quietly set some napkins on the side table for me.
